Lifecycle team train on Tower Road to raise money

35 cyclists who soon will be crossing 2,200 kilometres, from Lourdes to Casablanca, as part of the HSBC Lifecycle Challenge, will undergo a training session on spinning bikes along the Sliema promenade in a bid to raise funds for renal patients on Sunday, August 10 between 18:00CET and 21:00CET.

Marking the fund-raising event’s 10th anniversary, cyclists will set off from Europe’s spiritual capital and then speed through arduous paths across France, Spain, and over the Strait of Gibraltar to the sands of Morocco between August 14 and 25.  

This is the first time Lifecycle, with the support of HSBC Life Assurance (Malta) Ltd. is taking the challenge to a destination outside the continent, aptly naming it ‘Strait to Africa’. The Lifecycle Organisation aims to raise money in aid of Renal patients at the Mater Dei Hospital.

“The ride is a big challenge for all the cyclists, particularly given the scorching heat in the visiting countries at this time of the year,” said Richard Jones, Managing Director of HSBC Life Insurance, which is the main sponsor of the event. “This required months of very intense training which we have all been very willing to do to help renal patients at Mater Dei Hospital.” Mr Jones is taking part in the challenge along with another four HSBC employees.

“We really encourage the public to come and join the team preparing to take the challenge later this month, to lend us their support and make a donation to help the Renal Unit provide these suffering patients with the best services for a better quality of life,” said Mr Jones.
