The Marsa team cricket team has proved winners over two touring teams Wincanton C.C on Friday and St.Annes C.C on Sunday.
Marsa C.C played against Wincanton C.C in a twenty twenty game (a 20 over game per side). The home team won the toss and elected to bat. Nowell Khosla and Andy Lenard opened the batting and batted the whole of the innings. Lenard facedfifty eight balls scoring fifty four runs including six fours. Khosla faced sixty two balls and scored an incredible 103 runs including thirteen fours and two sixes. He had made his fifty of thirty two balls. This was the first century made against a touring side this year. The Marsa side totaled 164 runs aided with seven extras. The Wincanton bowlers bowled well enough and unfortunately for them their fielders did not back them up with a few catches being dropped during the innings.
The Wincanton reply was impressive keeping up with the run rate up till the thirteenth over. Chasing a good score had their batsmen taking more risks then normal and they lost their better batsmen. The Marsa fieldsman also dropped a few catches but also managed too take some great grabs. Dave Newton caught of his own bowling what would have been described as a bullet, while Mark G.Sacco and Kevin Krishna both took good catshes in the outfield. For the visitors T.Thatcher top scored with thirty nine runs, followed by D.Wright twenty four runs and D.Carswell with twenty two runs. Marsa win the one game series.
On Sunday the Marsa team took on a new touring team, St.Annes C.C who won the toss and elected to bat. Nowell Khosla opening the bowling made light work of the top three batsmen. J.Hindle was their main run contributor with twenty three runs. The visitors were bowled out for 139 runs. Ronnie Sacco also managed to take three wickets for the home team.. In reply the Marsa team lost seven wickets before reaching their target. Joy Ghoseroy top scoring with fifty seven runs and Tim Edwards continued his fine form with thirty one runs not out. For St.Annes P.Bowman was the main wicket taker with three wickets. Marsa win the one game series. .
Next weekend the Marsa take on returning touring team Ladymead C.C in a two game series. Both games starting at 10:30CET.
