In a statement on Wednesday, Enemalta Corporation said that during a routine water draining operation on one of the storage tanks at Delimara Power Station a small amount of water and gasoil was accidentally spilled on the concrete floor.  Enemalta personnel immediately initiated procedures to contain the spillage.

The amount of oil spill registered is minimal at an estimated 10 cubic metres of gasoil and  has been successfully collected.

The spillage was fully contained within the concrete lined tank bund protecting the tank and no damage to the surrounding environment or underground seepage has been registered. No personnel were injured and no type of damage has been sustained to any equipment.

Competent authorities including the MRA, MEPA, OHSA and civil protection have been immediately informed.
