Ing. Colin Camilleri, Chief Technology Officer at the Malta
Communications Authority, passed away on Thursday at Sir Paul Boffa
Hospital. His funeral was held on Saturday at St Lucija, followed by
interment at Ta' l-Erwieh Cemetery, Tarxien.
In a statement to the press, MaltaMedia Deputy Chairman Dr. Ing. Saviour
Zammit said Colin Camilleri was an exceptional telecoms engineer and a
devoted family man. His initial restless, inquisitive mind took him to
work with the main players in the telecoms industry in Malta. His will
to explore further led him to work for a major telecoms company outside
our shores, at the time when telecoms was the market to be
in.
Colin joined the Malta Communications Authority just when the
telecommunications sector in Malta was facing, undoubtedly, its most
exciting and defining moments. His vision and knowledge of the local
and foreign telecommunications sectors allowed him to influence
markedly the shape that this market has taken.
"We
will all remember his untiring spirit as he raced to help liberalise
many of the telecom sectors in Malta, with resounding success. All the
industry players were grateful that Colin was at the MCA in full
knowledge that the technical intricacies of our sector were well
understood with him at the helm. We all owe a lot to his dynamism and
energy," Dr. Ing. Saviour
Zammit said.
The MaltaMedia Deputy Chairman concluded by saying that Ing. Camilleri will be sorely missed by the ones he loved
and the ones he touched. "Our world will be that little more empty now
that he is looking down at us with Him. Rest in peace, colleague and
friend."
Colin Camilleri was 40 years old. He leaves to mourn his irreparable loss his beloved wife Jacqueline,
his adored daughter Carla, his parents Michael (Kelly) and Emily, his
caring sister Claudine and her boyfriend Conrad, his in-laws Victor and
Mary Magri, his sister-in-law Carmen and her husband Dr Antoine
Schembri Wismayer, and their son Adrian of Bath, UK, his cousins,
relatives and many friends in Malta and abroad, especially his
colleagues at the Malta Communications Authority.
