SmartCity Kochi finalises land agreement

SmartCity Kochi, a joint venture between SmartCity and the Government of Kerala, has yesterday signed the lease agreement for the remaining 11.4 acres of land, that makes up the northern land parcel of 133 acres.

Out of the 246 acres of land which SmartCity Kochi expands over, it currently has in-formal SEZ (Special Economic Zone) approval of 133 acres of the land.  In order to be in a further planning stage once the SEZ notification status is granted, SmartCity Kochi has already taken significant steps forward by appointing Colin Buchanan as the master planners, Mouchel as the infrastructure design and implementation consultants and Hill International as the project management consultants for the SmartCity Kochi integrated township.  

Fareed Abdulrahman, Chief Executive Officer of SmartCity and Board Member of SmartCity Kochi, commented on the signing of the land, “We are very enthusiastic about being a part of the Government’s vision to further develop Kochi, and Kerala, as a key IT/ITES (Information Technology Enabled Services).  The continuous support that we receive from the Government of Kerala, and from all that share our mutual IT/ITES vision, makes us certain that together, we will be able to develop a top-tier township that will set a new national benchmark.”

The signing of this land agreement will enable SmartCity Kochi to progress with the SEZ notification process.  Like all developments of this size, there are many technicalities that need thorough consideration, In parallel to clarifying such technicalities, however, SmartCity Kochi is moving forward with realising the township and is currently in the process of setting up a fully functional sales office in Kochi.  The sales office will allow direct contact with potential business partners and allow a more hands-on approach to the development and relations between SmartCity Kochi and its stakeholders.
