One of Britain’s longest-running and popular TV series, Coronation Street, may well be including an episode filmed and based entirely on location in Malta. The filming is possibly to be carried out this July, the Malta Tourism Authority (MTA) revealed.

Initial contacts for this project were carried out by officials at the MTA in association with local film and TV producer, Winston Azzopardi. Coronation Street producers will be in Malta shortly for talks in an effort to finitialize the project. The TV series reaches average viewership levels of more than 11 Million.

The Malta Tourism Authority will be also supporting the popular Italian TV Fiction-Series, Carabinieri 7. This fiction has been very popular in Italy for the last six years with a viewer-ship of four million a week. The October filming for episodes 13 and 14 of  Carabinieri 7 will represent Malta as Malta and not as a double for another location the exposure of the island will be very high.

In recent weeks, the Malta Tourism Authority was also contacted by Dott. Marino Maranzara, author and producer of a Docu-Fiction, ‘Il Mistero della morte di Melchiorre Cafa’. Dott. Maranzara expressed keen interest in filming parts of this ambitious docu-fiction in Malta.

Contacts were immediately established by the MTA with a view to providing the necessary incentives for this project to come to pass.
