Runway issue halts Air Malta flight to Bristol

Air Malta is among nine airlines that decided not to use Bristol International Airport on Saturday because of worries about the ability of planes to brake in wet weather after resurfacing work on the runway.

airmaltaThe airport expected a total of 98 flights to be diverted to other airports and 28 flights to be cancelled. According to thisislondon.co.uk, problems began after the airport announced runway resurfacing plans last October, with work scheduled to last for five months.

Other airline which have decided not to use the airport include easyJet, BA Connect, XL, Thomsonfly, Thomas Cook, Balkan Airlines, First Choice and SN Brussels.

Tony Hallwood, the airport's Aviation Development Director, told thisislondon.co.uk "Over the past 24 hours we have been working with our airline partners to find an acceptable way forward. We wish to reassure passengers that every effort is being made to ensure to that a normal service is resumed at Bristol International as soon as possible. The safety of our passengers is, as always, of paramount concern."

All passengers have been advised to contact their airlines and tour operators directly for individual details regarding their flights.
