A patrol boat was scuttled 150 metres off the Ċirkewwa coast on Tuesday, to serve as an attraction for divers. Diving is considered to be one of Malta's attractions among tourists.

The 52-metre long P-29 patrol boat was scuttled by Cassar Ship Repairs. The operation to purposefully sink the vessel started at around 0700CEST, when when the P-29 left Valletta’s Grand Harbour. The vessel reached its final resting place early during the afternoon after holes in its sides were opened to allow water to seep in.

Last January a total of 57 dive sites were identified through a Diving Master Plan for Gozo and Comino. 45 of these are located in Gozo while 12 are located in Comino. Of these, 21 can be accessed from shore.
