In a statement on Thursday, the Federated Association of Travel & Tourism Agents (FATTA) expressed its relief at the removal of the departure tax.
The Association said that Government should ensure that any departure tax already collected for travel after 1st November 2008 is refunded immediately by the airlines and not after the travel has been completed.
FATTA was the first entity to claim that the tax was discriminatory and illegal, and was the first to file a complaint with the EU.
FATTA said it is pleased to see that it’s efforts bore fruit, albeit 4 years late. It is also encouraging to see MEPs who were initially hesitant to take this forward now claiming political glory, the association said.
