Alternattiva Demokratika (AD) welcomed its positive results in the 2004 local council elections. AD’s candidate in Swieqi Benjamin Psaila obtained 10% of the first count votes and was elected. AD’s candidate in Attard Ralph Cassar obtained 10.4% of the first count votes but did not make it for a few votes. AD’s candidate in Hamrun has obtained 2% of the vote in Hamrun.

In his first reaction to these results, AD’s General Secretary Stephen Cachia said "These results confirm AD’s positive run in local elections and The Green Party is really satisfied with the election of Benji Psaila in Swieqi. We were unfortunate not to elect a second councillor in Attard as Ralph Cassar obtained AD's best result with over 10% of votes but was not elected for just a few votes. Psaila will join the current 3 local councilors in B’Kara, Lija and Sliema."

Stephen Cachia added that "This is an affirmation of AD’s effective presence at local level after the success achieved by Arnold Cassola on a national level in last week’s European Elections".
