AFM Open Day at Luqa Barracks

An Open Day will be held at Luqa Barracks on Sunday 10th October 2004 between 10.00 am and 6.00 pm. All the regiments of the Armed Forces will be taking part. Each unit will be having stands specific to their particular duties. Equipment used by the AFM is also being exhibited, including weapons, ammunition, vehicles, heavy plant, aircraft, etc.

The public will be able to walk around the whole barracks experiencing the daily life of a soldier as they go through the exhibits and hands-on activities specially prepared for the event.

Apart from these on-going events, special displays will be held in the central parade ground every half hour as shown hereunder:

1030 Air Defence Battery Gunnery Display
1100 Recruits training / drill session (public participation)
1130 Hasty Attack (Infantry)
1200 81 mm Mortar and 12.7 mm Browning deployment
1230 Room Clearing Drill
1300 Manual towing of 3-ton truck
1330 AFM Band Display
1400 81 mm Mortar and 12.7 mm Browning deployment
1430 Bomb disposal demonstration by EOD Robot
1500 Recruits training/drill session (public participation)
1530 Room Clearing Drill
1600 Air Rescue and Fast-roping display
1630 Hasty Attack (Infantry)
1700 Air Defence Battery Gunnery Display
1730 Band Display followed by flag-down

The AFM Band will, apart from its scheduled displays, be playing military tunes whilst marching around Luqa Barracks at various intervals.

Activities for children include a miniature abseiling/rock climbing wall, an assault course, rides on military vehicles and a treasure hunt with prizes. Adults can make use of the miniature range and handle weapons, while those brave enough to take the brunt of a drill Sergeant Major can take part in the drill and marching events.

Hot snacks and drinks will be available on site at the AFM field kitchen.

Parking will not be allowed inside barracks, but there is more than ample space in the immediate vicinity.

Entrance is free of charge.
