The Paris-based ‘Institut National des Langues et Civilisations’ (INALCO) announced that it will be offering, as from February 2005, a 50-hour curriculum unit on the Maltese language through the efforts of Ambassador of Malta in France Prof Salvino Busuttil. The Maltese language will be the 93rd language taught at INALCO.

This credit will form part of the syllabus, leading to Degree, Master’s and Doctorate courses. Maltese linguist Elgar-Paul Magro has been entrusted by INALCO with the course, while it is envisaged that visiting Maltese lecturers also participate therein, within the European Union’s ERASMUS programme.

INALCO is an official scientific and cultural institution operating within the framework of the Ministry of Youth, National Education and Research, whose mission is to teach the language, history, geography and culture of countries of Central and Eastern Europe, Asia and Oceania, Africa and the Americas.

The Embassy has presented a number of books in Maltese to INALCO.

Further details may be obtained from INALCO’s website www.inalco.fr
