Every year brings with it a number of unique events which graft it into the history books.

Last year will be remembered, even in Malta for its 11th September even though the terrorist attacks that marked that date took place thousands of miles away. 2002 will be remembered for its 1st August, its 13th December or maybe its 25th May.

Few can forget the day when the unprecedented judiciary scandal rocked the foundations of Malta's legal system, or the day Malta concluded its negotiations after applying for membership in the European Union 12 years ago or the day when Ira Losco made every Maltese person proud by placing second in the Eurovision Song Contest.

These days will be remembered because of the major events that took place. But several other events happened effecting virtually every sector of Maltese society.

The weather, for example played some funny tricks this year while the cultural scene saw a few firsts for Malta.
