Local band Corkskrew have concluded a promotional deal in America that will land tracks from the band’s latest album No Ordinary Maybe on the airwaves of hundreds of radio stations in the United States. The deal was signed with Minnesota-based promotional company Tinderbox Music.
This is the second time that Corkskrew have signed a promotional deal in America. As a result of the first deal, tracks from the band’s debut CD Micromania were aired in over 100 stations all over America, especially college radio stations. College radios are considered to be the launching pad of emerging acts.
In the US radio promotion that took place a year ago, Corkskrew recorded significant airplay and high chart positions on a number of college radios. Moreover, the band was interviewed on a number of American radio stations. Following the airplay, Corkskrew were featured on a number of US rock magazines, including Amplifier Magazine and Lollipop. In the case of Lollipop, Corkskrew were included twice in a compilation CD issued with the magazine.
A spokesman from Tinderbox Music said: “We loved Micromania but we are more in love with No Ordinary Maybe. Clearly the band has matured and the overall sound of this new album is quite impressive. We think it should do well in America.”
The band is planning to promote the album in Europe too, especially in Germany, Austria and the UK. Recently, Corkskrew’s tracks were included in the Austrian compilation Band:Union IV.
Meanwhile, No Ordinary Maybehas hit the charts of record stores as well as of local radio stations. The first single from the album, Blind Spot is fast climbing the charts of stations like 89.7 Bay (chart position number 7), A3FM (number 1) and Xfm (number 4). Two weeks ago, Corkskrew’s CD was also Album of the Week on Radio 101.
Corkskrew are Diane Micallef (vocals), Lincoln Spiteri (guitars), Franco Aloisio (drums) and Cliff Smith (bass guitar).
