Air Malta, WSC to be privatized after 2007

The government intends to privatize Air Malta and Water Services Corporation (WSC) after 2007, an Italian newspaper has revealed.

Il Sole 24 ORE reported that the flight company as well as the water supplier will be privatized along with the electricity distribution sector of Enemalta and a 25.23% share the state has in the Central Bank of Malta. Consultant society Rotshild Italia has been called on by the government to find a strategic partner.

The privatizations, revealed to the newspaper by the Italian Embassy in Valletta, are among a number of others which are currently underway. Recently the government initiated a public process for commercialization of Gas Section in the Enemalta Corporation. The call for public offers will draw to a close on the 20th October 2006. Subsequent to this, the electricity distribution sector of Enemalta is also expected to be privatized.

Other operations include the cessation of public shares in Tug Malta, a society a tug-boat society operating in Valletta and Grain Silos in Cordin, with silos of 38 thousand tons utilized for stocking and unloading operations in the Valletta Grand Harbour.
