Maltapost has announced that the local postage rate for letters and postcards up to 50g in weight will be increased by one cent (Lm0.01c), up from 7 cents (Lm 0.07c) to 8 cents (Lm 0.08c). Additionally, another one cent (Lm0.01c) increase will be added to the price of printed papers. Printed papers up to 50g will therefore require a payment of 8 cents (Lm 0.08c).
The decision to increase postage fares was taken by the Malta Communications Authority and will come into effect as from Tuesday 19th September.
All other rates from 50g upwards remain unchanged.
The decision was made following a public consultation period which ended on 5th June 2006.
Earlier this year Maltapost had requested an adjustment in the tariffs for domestic mail.
