Chamber President and officers reconfirmed

Mr Victor A. Galea was re-confirmed President of the Malta Chamber of Commerce & Enterprise for his second-year during the Chamber's first Council meeting for 2007, held on Thursday.

malta chamer of commerce officialsMr Galea, first elected to the Chamber's Council in 1989 - obtained a Bachelor Degree in Management from Luther College in the USA in 1983. In 1996 he also obtained a Masters degree in Management from Henley-Brunel in the U.K. On his return from the USA in 1983 he joined his family business: V. J. Salomone Ltd, an establishment founded by his grandfather and operating since the 1920s. Today he occupies the post of Managing Director of V.J. Salomone Marketing Ltd, a leading distribution company in the fast-moving consumer goods business. Victor A. Galea holds Directorships in other group subsidiaries. He also holds Directorships on Middle Sea Insurance plc and Malta Enterprise.

At the same meeting all the other Officers retained their posts.

Mr Norman Aquilina is Senior Vice-President, Mr Charles M. Mercieca is Vice-President, Mr Peter Grima is Honorary Secretary, Mr Mario Spiteri is Honorary Treasurer, Mr Stefano Mallia is Assistant Honorary Secretary and Mr Tonio Casapinta is Assistant Honorary Treasurer.

In a brief address to his fellow Council members, Mr Galea thanked them for re-affirming their support and promised to once more reciprocate their trust. He re-iterated his belief in inclusive leadership and stated that he would continue to seek wide participation of the Chamber's members basing success on teamwork. Mr Galea said that the immediate priorities for the Chamber were to continue working on the issues currently on the agenda of the local business community, namely that of the adoption of the euro as the national currency, the need for government to tackle and resolve the issue of abuse in free movement of goods as well as a timely conclusion of the Port Reform Process.
