A Christmas period shopping survey amongst members of the Malta Chamber for Small and Medium Enterprises has revealed that the majority of shop and establishment owners believe that this year’s Christmas was better than previous ones.

The survey was conducted on the 3rd and 4th of January.

55 per cent said that this year’s Christmas was better, 26 per cent said it was the same while 19 per cent said it was worse.

Asked to rate this year's Christmas shopping period, 41 per cent said it was ok, 43 per cent said it was not bad while 16 per cent said it was bad.

According to the survey, most shopping was for home entertainment, technology items and clothes.

The survey also revealed that bars, clubs and grocers experienced a drop in sales with 41 per cent saying they had done badly.

During the press conference in which the survey results were presented, GRTU General Director Vince Farrugia called for more activities such as the Tre Re Notte Magica which motivate people to shop.
