Five companies for Harbour cargo management

Five companies offered a tender for the management of merchandise in the Valletta Harbour, after the call for tenders ended on Monday 3 April.

The five companies who showed interest are
- Kuwait & Gulf Stevedoring Company Ltd
- La Valletta Terminal Co (Malta) Ltd – Salv Bezzina and Sons Ltd, Salvu Meli and Sons Ltd and Mr. Joseph Paris.
- Malta Ports Terminals Limited
- TF Shipping Agencies Limited – Tumas Group Company Ltd, Portek Ports (Mauritius) Ltd, Portek International Ltd
- The Malta Services Consortium – Hili Company Limited, GWU Holdings Ltd, PW Investments plc

The documents from the interested parties were opened at 1600 CET on Monday, the deadline for application, in the in the Maltese Maritime Authority with the Negotiating Team present, made up of Dr Marc Bonello. Mr Louis Cilia and Mr Sonny Portelli.

Also present were Mr Charles Schembri, Executive Director of the Ports in the Maritime Auhtority, as well as various representatives of the aforementioned companies who had sent in their proposals for the tender.

The evaluation process will now commence in order to determine which company will be the eventual operators of the Valletta Harbour as from July 2006.
