European ICT Prize open to Maltese organizations

Maltese organizations will be able to participate in the European Information and Communication Technologies Prize (EICT Prize), which is among the most distinguished awards for innovative products and services that represent the best of European innovation in Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

Organizations, from enterprises to universities, based in the European Union (EU) or in associated states, are eligible to participate. The European Commission will select up to 20 EICT Prize Winners and up to 3 Grand Prize Winners, based on the technical rankings established by the expert evaluators.

eGovmonitor said that the result of the evaluation will be announced in February 2007. The application deadline ends on the 4th December 2006.

The award structure provides for 50 to 70 nominees for the EICT Prize, 20 nominees for the EICT Grand Prize, 20 winners with prizes of Lm 2,150 (€5,000, US$6,351)each and 3 Grand Prize winners with prizes of Lm 86,000 (€200,000, US$ 254,000) each.

This year’s theme is "Novel products with a high information technology content and evident market potential". All applications are assessed by independent experts from 16 European countries Euro-CASE will propose 20 Winners to the European Commission. An Executive Jury, composed of executives from 19 European countries will propose the three Grand Prize Winners.

The Prize is organized by European Council of Applied Sciences, Technologies and Engineering (Euro-CASE) with the sponsorship and support of the European Commission.
