Following an invitation extended by Malta’s Foreign Minister Michael Frendo at the Rabat Conference on Migration and Development held last July, Malta hosted a Preparatory Experts’ Meeting between Thursday and Friday in preparation for the EU-AU Ministerial Conference on Migration and Development to be held in Libya on 22-23 November 2006.

The meeting brought together eleven countries from the EU and Africa as well as the European Commission and the African Union Commission.

Commenting on this meeting in Malta, Foreign Minister Michael Frendo said that this meeting is in line with the Government’s policy in favour of promoting a continental dialogue between Europe and Africa in order to develop joint principles and strategies which address areas of mutual interest, such as the issue of illegal immigration.
