Former Speaker passes away

Former Speaker of the House Kalċidon Agius passed away on Wednesday 24 May at the age of 88. Mr. Agius began his political career in 1951 with the Labour Party.

Mr. Agius was appointed as Speaker of the House of Representatives between the years of 1978 and 1982, and was twice appointed Acting President of the Republic. After his retirement from politics, Mr. Agius went on to serve as Commissioner for Justice.

He was born on 19 October 1917; married to Salvina Grech and the father of five children. Kalċidon Agius is also known for his writings which include Porvli lejn in-nar, Rikatt, Boomerang and Delitt fil-Kamra tal-Banju.
