Humanitarian aid for Lebanon, donated by the general public in the recent weeks has reached its destination according to The Department of Civil Protection.
The goods, including infants’ food, tinned food, blankets, water and energy drinks, medical equipment and biscuits are already being distributed.
The Director of the Department of Civil Protection Peter Cordina thanked the generous contributions of the public, as well as local councils which collected the aid.
The Director also thanked the contribution of Civil Protection officials, volunteers and the Ministries for Justice and Home Affairs and Foreign affairs.
Earlier this month the Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that it covered the transportation costs for the collected goods.
On Sunday, the Israeli cabinet has endorsed a UN Security Council resolution calling for an end to fighting in southern Lebanon. According to BBC News United Nations chief Kofi Annan has made a strong plea to member states to provide troops for a peacekeeping force in Lebanon.
Mr Annan added that the situation on the ground was still "fragile" and urged Israel immediately to lift its air and sea blockade on Lebanon so aid could be delivered quickly.
