A constitutional amendment was published on Wednesday, whereby the post of Ombudsman could be added in the Constitution of Malta.
The amendment gives a general description of the operations of the Ombudsman and proposes a two-thirds majority in parliament for the dismissal of an Ombudsman.
Minister for Justice and Home Affairs Tonio Borg who published the amendment said the government is still awaiting the Opposition’s reaction to the proposed amendment.
To be accepted the amendment requires the support of the party in opposition, the Malta Labour Party.
Malta’s current Ombudsman is Chief Justice Emeritus Dr. Joseph Said Pullicino.
