Malta Labour Party (MLP) main speaker for tourism, Evarist Bartolo urged the government to be more transparent about the criteria used to assess offers made by Ryanair and easyJet to operate four new routes to and from Malta. The main speaker added that the same transparency must be applicable to the composition of the selection board that will assess the offers.
Evarist Bartolo stated that it is essential that the decision taken is in the best interest of Malta and the tourism industry.
Ryanair submitted an application to operate from Dublin, Luton and Pisa, while easyJet submitted an application to operate flights from Luton and Mulhouse-Basel.
The main speaker added that in his view, Malta would garner the best result if an agreement is negotiated with both companies. This will increase the number of routes to Malta without allowing any companies to blackmail the island, according to Evarist Bartolo.
