MLP spokesperson for Home Affairs Dr. Gavin Gulia has called on the government to explain why Malta was not involved in an agreement Italy and Libya reached on joint sea patrols on Wednesday. In a statement on Thursday, the spokesperson asked why neither country made mention of Malta’s role in these patrols adding that the government is to guarantee that the agreement reached between Italy and Libya, includes Maltese participation.

In the light of the declaration by Home Affairs Minister Giuliano Amato on the agreement reached between Italy and Libya, which includes Italian Police visiting Tripoli to make use of Libyan patrol boats and Libyan Officials visiting Rome to coordinate operations from Italy, the spokesperson asked where Malta’s involvement really stood.

Dr. Gavin Gulia added that if Malta has been left out from the arrangements the government is to explain the reasons behind the ousting.
