After a number of weeks of summer recess, Parliament is meeting again on Monday evening to debate the second reading of pension reforms.
Other issues to be discussed include a draft law to amend the Maltese constitution, which will be discussed at Committee stage, as well as a law calling for harsher punishments for persons caught selling alcohol to minors. In turn, later during the week the Permanent Committee for the Consideration of Bills will meet to discuss draft laws amending the Civil Codes and Central Registry draft laws.
The draft law amending the Social Security Act concerning pensions has already been discussed during other sittings. In Monday’s sitting the law will undergo a second reading.
Another draft law to undergo a second reading is that calling for changes to the Codes of Police Laws whereby harsher punishments will be enforced against persons caught selling alcohol to people under age.
In October, the Budget Speech for 2007 will take place, to be followed by intensive discussions throughout the month of November, where the Parliament will meet on mornings as well as evenings.
It is also believed that by the time the Parliament will retire for Christmas recess, financial estimates of various corporations and governmental agencies will be approved.
