For the first time in the history of the Local Councils Association (LCA), the Malta Labour Party (MLP) has elected on Saturday the majority of members reflecting its overall local council majority. The MLP elected four councilors from seven to the executive of the association. The Nationalist Party (PN) won the other three.

The MLP elected councilors were Qrendi counsillor Claudette Abela Baldacchino elected from the South-East regional list (Xlokk region). Kalkara mayor Michael Cohen, Sta Lucia mayor Fredick Cutajar and Nadur councillor Maria Natoli were elected from the general list.

In turn the Nationalist party’s three councillors were Ian Micallef elected on the general list. Doris Borg was elected in the North-West region list ( Majjistral) and San Lawrenz mayor Noel Formosa won the Gozo region list.

These results come after amendments with regards to the composition of the Local Council Association have been guaranteed by Vice Prime Minister Tonio Borg in August. Such amendments guaranteed that the party which gets the majority of counillors would consequently be assured the majority of seating places within the executive of the association.
