Immigration and integration where the key matters discussed during Friday’s Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) meeting in Malta. The three-day long conference will come to an end on Sunday and discuss a number of themes put forward by Malta.
52 different countries are participating in the conference, which is among the largest to have ever been organized in Malta.
The organization has been holding such conferences for the past 30 years, ever since it was set up. This year is seeing the participation of Libya, which was invited to take part in the conference on Malta’s invitation.
Among the themes discussed on Friday were the management of migration, how a multi-ethnical and multicultural Europe can be both promoted and protected and what role the organization has in multi-ethnical societies. Security threats arising from Global Migration were also touched upon, followed by a talk on the role of borders vis-avis migration.
Various OSCE speakers intervened during Friday’s conference. President Emeritus of Malta Prof. Guido De Marco also spoke during the day long-conference. Other Maltese speakers included Mr. Ranier Fsadni from the Mediterranean Institute, University of Malta, Jason Azzopardi, Head of the Maltese Delegation to the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly and Mr. Anton Tabone, Speaker of the House of Representatives of Malta
The conference will continue throughout the weekend, coming to an end on Sunday late afternoon. The representatives of each country are expected to remain in Malta until Monday.
