Former Speaker Jimmy Farrugia passes away at 84

Former House of Representatives Speaker and Nationalist Party (PN) politician Jimmy Farrugia passed away at the age of 84 on Saturday morning. For some time Jimmy Farrugia, a doctor by profession, also served as Agent President to Malta.

He served the PN for around 10 years after being elected in 1976. Subsequently, in 1988, he was appointed Speaker of the House of Representatives. He also served as a Maltese Ambassador to the Vatican.

Jimmy Farrugia also contributed to the culture through a number of publications. He was also in laics Catholic groups.

Jimmy Farrugia was born in Tarxien in 1922 and was married to Doris nee Tanti.

The PN expressed its condolences with Jimmy Farrugia’s wife, relatives and friends. In a statement the party stated that Jimmy Farrugia served his various posts in Malta with great loyalty. The party added that he carried out his work with great dedication, seriousness and effort.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 1400CET at the Tarxien Parish Church.
