A further decrease in water and electricity surcharge will be announced next week, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi said during a Nationalist Party activity in Siggiewi on Sunday. This will be the second reduction in one month following the four per cent (4%) announced earlier this month.

Dr Gonzi said that besides the decrease in surcharge, the government in the last budget had announced a scheme to help the needy because of the problems brought about by the increase in international oil prices.

The government, Prime Minister Gonzi said, is now able to introduce such benefits because of the decrease in deficit and the growing economy it has brought about.
