In his end of year message, Opposition Leader and leader of the Malta Labour Party (MLP) Dr Alfred Sant said that at the beginning of 2007, the Maltese should not lack the faith and courage to change and improve our society.
Dr Sant said that 2007 should be looked upon as a beginning to improve the education system and the training our children and youths are being given with the aim to open new opportunities for work in the future.
He added that in 2007 the quality of life of families should be given a fresh look, both from the material and social aspects. The MLP is committed to give full attention also to the older generations. Dr Sant augured that 2007 is a year whereby the family values are truly practised.
Dr Sant described 2006 as a year that could have been much better for the families considering the increase in cost of living, the conditions of work and job opportunities and lack of investments in several sectors led to the lowering of the standard of living for a lot of families.
Dr Sant said that although it is true that there were work sectors that improved and did well, the basis of our economy such as tourism, the manufacturing industry, fisheries and agriculture and shops were badly hit. However, this should not discourage us, Dr Sant Sant said but rather it should give us the push to aim to higher levels.
Dr Sant, also on behalf of the Malta Labour Party augured a happy New Year to all filled with higher quality of living than 2006.
