In reply to a question by Labour MP Joe Debono Grech, Prime Minister Lawrence Gonzi, said that 32 members of the Armed Forces of Malta resulted positive for TB mute, and were given the necessary treatment; however, none of them were indicated to carry and infectious disease. A total of 680 members were screened.

Dr Gonzi also pointed out that screening has been happening in secondary schools for the past 40 years and vaccinations were given which provide lifelong immunity to the virus. Despite this early prevention, AFM members are still regularly screened to ensure that they are adequately protected and are free from any viruses that they may come in contact with. AFM members are also administered with any necessary treatment.
