The number of uncollected voting documents for the Local Councils Elections to be held on Saturday was 8,805 on the deadline of midnight Thursday. The highest number of uncollected documents is in Sliema with 1,648, then 1,062 in Birkirkara and 1,026 in Marsascala. There are 124,766 eligible voters.
For the first time ever the voting documents were delivered by post. Over 110,000 or 88% were delivered this way and the rest had to be collected from local police stations and local councils’ officers or from the Electoral Commission offices until Thursday midnight.
Thursday also saw the end of the electoral campaign.
Vodafone customers will be able to follow developments in the Local Council Elections thanks to a results service being provided by MaltaMedia News. After voting ends on 11 March, Vodafone will be able to provide its customers with information on turnout. A comprehensive results service covering all the individual localities will also be provided with results becoming available as the Electoral Commission issues them.
In order to receive information on the results of the Saturday's Local Council Elections, Vodafone customers have to send an SMS containing the specific three letter code for the locality in which they are interested in to 50902060. Vodafone will reply with an SMS containing the latest information on that particular locality. Each SMS request to Vodafone's election results service cost 5 cents inclusive of VAT.
The codes for the localities in which elections will take place this Saturday are; Mdina - MDI, Ghaxaq - GHX, Rabat (Malta) - RAM, Bormla - BOR, Kalkara - KAL, San Gwann - SAG, Zabbar - ZAB, Lija - LIJ, Sannat - SAN, Rabat (Gozo) - RAG, Marsaskala - MAR, Sliema - SLI. Birkirkara - BIR, Mgarr - MGA, Tarxien - TAR, Fgura - FGU, Msida - MSI, Xghajra - XGH, Gudja - GUD, Naxxar - NAX, Mtarfa - MTA, Gharb - GHR, Pieta' - PIE.
