Imperium Europa leader Norman Lowell was arraigned in court on Saturday afternoon and charged with enticing racial hate. The extreme right-wing party leader allegedly made compromising statements enticing racial hatred during public meetings and published articles containing abusive and threatening discourse yielding racial hatred. 59-year-old Norman Lowell was arrested earlier on Saturday in his Attard residence.
Norman Lowell was prosecuted by Superintendent Peter Paul Zammit and Inspectors George Cremona and Angelo Caruana. The 59-year-old was further more charged with insulting Maltese President Dr. Edward Fenech Adami earlier during the month.
Norman Lowell was granted bail on a personal guarantee of Lm5,000. Lawyer Emy Beżżina appeared for the accused. The court was presided over by Magistrate Jacqueline Padovani Grima.
Should he be found guilty of these charges, Norman Lowell could face up to three years in jail.
This is not the first time that Norman Lowell was arraigned in court in relation to similar incidents, where he was charged with enticing racial hate during public meetings and via internet websites.
In 2004, Normal Lowell contested the 2004 European Parliament elections for Malta on behalf of his party.
