Decelis family gets over 41 years for murder

The Decelis family was sentenced to over 41 years in jail after being found guilty of the murder of Rachel Bowdler. Mr Justice Joseph Galea Debono did not heed appeals from the jury when giving the sentence on Tueaday.

Jason Decelis was sentenced to 25 years in jail despite an appeal from the jury to the judge to take into consideration the fact that the defendant had personal problems.

His mother Concetta was sentenced to 15 years while his father Carmel got 1 year and six months.

Mother and son were found guilty of wilful homicide in the death of Rachel Bowdler, while the father was found guilty of involuntary murder.

18-year-old Bowdler who was found dead on May 13th 2001 in the limits of Mgarr known as il-Gebel. The teenager had died of overdose but could have been saved had the accused family members sought help instead of hiding the girl’s body in a field.
