The Customs office seized five containers loaded with counterfeit goods in the recent weeks. Among the counterfeit brands were clothes and accessories falsely labeled as Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Levis, Diesel, Puma, Nike, Adidas, FIFA, Manchester United, Timberland, Louis Vuitton and Burberry.

The counterfeit merchandise arrived in Malta from Far East and was described as the Customs' largest ever haul of false merchandise.
The Customs Monitoring Department’s suspicions were aroused when the vessel’s merchandise declaration was found to contain variations which according to the department could not have been correct. The containers were subsequently subjected to a scrutinizing examination with a Vehicle and Containers Inspection System (VACIS) machine.
When this process yielded inconclusive results, the Customs office decided to check the containers manually. The latter examination revealed on Thursday that all the goods on the five containers were indeed counterfeit.
The containers contained over 20,000 false labels including Hugo Boss, Giorgio Armani, Gucci, Levis, Diesel, Puma, Nike, Adidas, FIFA, Manchester United, Timberland, Louis Vuitton and Burberry. Among the goods were clothes, belts, handbags, caps, shoes, seat covers, wallets and watches.
This year total number of containers caught carrying counterfeit labels and brands amounts to 20.
