28 illegal immigrants reach Gozitan shore

A group of 28 illegal immigrants reached Gozitan shores in Xwejni, near Żebbuġ on Thursday morning. The illegal immigrants were brought to Malta for further investigations.

The group consisting of 16 men, 9 women and 3 children reached the coast at around 0830CEST after jumping off the boat they were traveling on and swimming to the coast.

Among the children are two boys and one girl.

Police investigations are underway.

In turn on Wednesday evening more illegal immigrants were expected to reach the Maltese Islands as the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) announced that they were involved in two operations involving two separate boats with illegal immigrants on board.

On Wednesday morning a group of 27 illegal immigrants reached Maltese shores in Marsaxlokk.

The total number of illegal immigrants to arrive in Malta since the beginning of 2006 stands at 1,250.
