In the recent days Archbishop Joseph Mercieca hinted that the appointment of his successor is near when he spoke with a group of missionaries holidaying in Malta and spoke of what happen to be his “last days” as Archbishop.
According to Kulħadd the Vatican has already told the Curia that Malta’s next Archbishop will be Mgr. Lawrence Gatt. His appointment is expected to be communicated to the public in the upcoming days.
Besides, Mgr. Lawrence Gatt, the nominees were Mgr. Charles Scicluna who works in the Roman Curia and Fr. George Frendo who was recently appointed Auxiliary bishop of Tirana-Durres in Albania.
