Nigerian man held for drug importation

Late on Friday evening, Issac Anthony Ugochukwu a 26-year-old Nigerian man was arrested in connection with the importation of drugs to Malta.

Half a kilo of cannabis and around 200 grams of cocaine were confiscated by the Customs officials while it was being imported.

The man is married to a Maltese national and resides in Qawra.

On Saturday the man was arraigned in court charged with importing, possessing and associating with other persons to import cocaine and cannabis to Malta. He was also accused of being in possession of a false passport.

He pleaded not guilty to the accusations. However, he was not granted bail and was kept at the Corradino Corrective Facility.

Magistrate Dr Abigail Lofaro presided the case.
