A group of 70 Moroccans who entered Malta illegally were on Saturday repatriated to Casablanca on a direct AirMalta flight.

The Moroccans had arrived in Malta last June on a vessel together with 266 illegal immigrants on board. It had resulted that the other immigrants were Egyptians and were repatriated some days after their arrival in Malta.

MaltaRightNow.com reported that Parliamentary Secretary at the Office of the PrimeMinister Tony Abela said that this is the first time that Morocco is accepting such a large group repatriated. Tony Abela thanked Police Commissioner John Rizzo for his work to repatriate the immigrants and more than 100 officials of the Armed Forces of Malta and Police Corp who accompanied the immigrants. The repatriation was possible following diplomatic talks through the Foreign Affairs Ministry, MaltaRightNow.com added.

According to MaltaRightNow.com, another five illegal immigrants of Moroccan nationality who were rescued by a Spanish trawler are expected to be repatriated in the next few days by means of EU funds.
