An earthquake shook a number of Maltese localities at around 0450CEST on Wednesday morning. No injuries or damages have been reported as yet. According to Radju Malta the epicenter of the earthquake was 20 kilometers South East of Malta.
The tremor, measuring 3.0 on the Richter scale, lasted only a few seconds; however it was strong enough to awaken a number of concerned citizens, who contacted the police. The tremor was mostly felt in costal areas including Sliema, Birzebbuġia and Vittoriosa among others.
Such earthquakes are not rare. In fact, last January, an earthquake tremor originating from Greece was felt in various localities in Malta.
