29 illegal immigrants land in Gozo

29 illegal immigrants landed in Mgarr, Gozo on Sunday at about 0300 CET.

The police found the 26 men and three women in Manoel de Vilhena street in Mgarr after being informed that a boat with a number of illegal immigrants had entered the Gozitan harbour.

The immigrants were transferred to Malta.

The police are still investigating.

Meanwhile on Saturday, at least ten illegal immigrants died after a boat thought to be carrying as many as 120 illegal immigrants sank off the coast of the island of Lampedusa.

The death toll could rise to 40.
