Boatload of illegal immigrants enters Haywharf

A group of 19 illegal immigrants disembarked at the AFM Maritime Base in Haywharf at around 1845CEST. The group consisted of 18 men and a woman.

The illegal immigrants were brought ashore by an AFM patrol boat.

The AFM Operations Centre was informed by the Croatian registered MV Srakane that a 7 metre long boat with 19 persons was in difficulty approximately 33 NM to the South East of Malta. The group were referred to the Immigration Police Section. Investigations are under way.

The last group to reach Maltese shores was on Sunday night when a boatload of 31 illegal immigrants reached Maltese shores after landing in Ghar Lapsi Bay.
