Another human tragedy unfolded in the Maltese-Sicilian channel as Eight illegal immigrants lost their lives in a voyage of hope towards Europe. Only 19 out of the 27 illegal immigrants survived the voyage that left from Libya.

The illegal immigrants were brought ashore in Portopalo, Sicily, on Saturday after sailing on board a of small boat in the Mediterranean Sea for twelve days. The eight illegal immigrants who died during the voyage were thrown into the sea by their fellow travelers.

According to ANSA news agency, four of the illegal immigrants were immediately taken to Noto Hospital as soon as they reached the shore, to be treated for dehydration and second degree burns caused by the sun.

The illegal immigrants, all men, were rescued 60 miles south east of Siracusa by Italian coast guards on Saturday evening. The illegal immigrants are thought to be from Eritrea.

The eight illegal immigrants who died during the voyage were thrown into the sea by their fellow travelers.
