More illegal immigrants reached Malta on Sunday, with the arrival of a third group in less than 24 hours. The group, rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM), was brought ashore at Haywharf at around 1830CEST.
The group consisted of 23 men, 3 women and 2 children. According to the AFM, tug boat Ruby Deliverer rescued 28 the illegal immigrants from a sinking boat whilst towing an oilrig about 26 nautical miles North West off San Dimitri point in Gozo.
An AFM Protector Class Patrol Craft P52 was immediately dispatched to the area. The illegal immigrants were transferred on to P52 and brought to Malta for Police investigations.
In turn, another two groups of illegal immigrants were rescued by the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) between Saturday night and Sunday morning.
The first group was brought into Haywharf in Valletta on Saturday at around 2230CET.
The group consisted of 26 men and 4 women.
Meanwhile, a second group of 31 illegal immigrants disembarked on Sunday at 0200 CET in Haywharf after being intercepted some 80 nautical miles South of Malta.
The group consisted of 27 men and 4 women. A man and a pregnant woman required medical attention on their arrival.
The police are investigating these last two rescues.
Well over a hundred illegal immigrants have arrived in Malta between Friday and Sunday.
