An autopsy reveleaed that Swedish pilot Gabor Varga involved in an aircraft collision during the Aero GP in Marsamxett died after drowning and rupturing a lung with the pressure.
His Yak-55 aerobatic airplane collided with another aircraft at around 12000CEST on Sunday, leaving him dead. According to the autopsy 45-year-old Gabor Varga sustained injuries.
In turn, the Armed Forces of Malta continued to lift airplane wreckage from the waters surrounding Marsamxett.
The Ministry for Competitiveness and Communications has ordered an inquiry to establish the cause of the crash. A Magisterial inquiry led by Dr. Apap Bologna is also underway.
The accident unfolded before the yes of thousands of horrified spectators who gathered in the port area to watch the Aero GP in its first visit to Malta.
Another pilot who involved in the accident survived the crash. 37-year-old Irish Eddie Goggins required treatment at St. Luke’s Hospital however released shortly afterwards. He was seen bailing out and using his parachute soon after the collision.
Further investigations are underway.
In turn, following fears that the Malta International Airshow would not be held over an insurance premium dispute, the Malta Aviation Society said in a statement that the show will be held as planned between the 23rd and 24th September.
