Four foreign men arrested after 3kgs cocaine haul

Customs Officers and Police seized 3kgs of cocaine in two separate drugs hauls between Sunday and Tuesday. The finds were made at Malta International Airport over a 30-hour period.

The first haul was made during the night between Sunday and Monday when Customs Officers caught a 38-year-old Mexican man flying into Malta from Amsterdam carrying 1.5 kgs of cocaine. The drug was found hidden in the man’s suitcase.

Another two men have been detained in relation to the case. One man is a 37-year-old Columbian national with a Canadian passport, while the other is a 29-year-old Panamanian national.

In turn, during the night between Monday and Tuesday, Customs Officers and Police caught another Mexican man, attempting to import another 1.5kgs of cocaine into Malta. The 42-year-old has also just arrived in Malta from Amsterdam.

In a statement Police said that they managed to seize the 3 kgs of cocaine in a 30-hour period.

A Magisterial inquiry for both bases is underway.

While Police investigations continue, a number of people involved in the cases are expected to be arraigned in court in the upcoming days.
