An illegal immigrants' boat capsized about 115 nautical miles South-West of Malta on Sunday. Twelve persons were rescued and a dead body was recovered by a Tunis research vessel. Other illegal immigrants have been reported missing.

The Tunis Rescue Coordination Centre informed the Armed Forces of Malta (AFM) about the incident at around 1130 CET.

The AFM Rescue Coordination Centre helped coordinate a search and rescue mission since the location of the incident was in Malta. The AFM informed all vessels navigating in the area to keep a sharp lookout for any possible survivors.

Tunisian maritime and Italian air assets are presently carrying out searches in the area for any possible survivors.

A Tunisian coast guard boat took the illegal immigrants on board to convey them to Tunis for further medical assistance and investigations.
