Nobody injured in fireworks complex explosion

Nobody was injured when part of the Santa Marija fireworks complex in Mġarr, Malta exploded on Monday at around 2130CEST.

Members from the Civil Protection Department were called on location, along with members fro the Explosive Ordinance Disposal and Police. The situation was brought under control briefly afterwards.

The cause of the explosion is not yet known.

Police investigations are underway.

Last month, a tragedy was avoided when a container full of petards exploded on a barge during celebrations of St Lawrence’s feast in Vittoriosa.
